Works by Jackson Pollock were featured in the August, 1949 issue of Life magazine. Through this article, Stevenson was introduced to the famous abstract artist as he was shelving old magazines in the Duke Library at Furman University, a dozen years later.
When Stevenson found time in midlife to return to his childhood love for drawing, experimentation with the Pollock painting techniques using more vibrant colors appealed to his colorblind eyes. The resulting abstracts fit comfortably on the spacious walls of the Greenwood Genetic Center and provided income for the Center’s Foundation.
In 2011, Equanimitas became the permanent studio for Stevenson’s painting and an adjoining home for the pARTners-in-CLAY potters.
The current “After Eighty Series” now numbers 20 large canvases which are shown here with selected painting from private collections produced in earlier years.
